“Looking beyond everyday surface characteristics, my work becomes this vehicle through which I explore those innate passions that drive us and lie embedded deep in the heart.”
Holding an MFA in Illustration from Syracuse University, Roxie has worked as both fine artist and visual arts educator for more than four decades. Her recent work embodies the realm of mixed media and the abstract. Much is inspired by travel along the east coast from Mt. Airy, Maryland to New Harbor, Maine.
Known also for her unique approach to the etching process, Roxie became the recipient of two memorial awards from the National Association of Women Artists in 2004 and 2005. She has also been recognized by inclusion in the Smithsonian Institute Archives of American Art for her Christmas card design. Prints and paintings have been shown widely in both national and local juried competitions, as well as in galleries of the Mid-Hudson Valley and metropolitan area.
Roxie lives, creates and writes out of her studio in Hyde Park, NY.
“As an artist I have an on-going need for change and have found the transition from etching to painting not only challenging, but liberating. I am fascinated with surface, even more so the treasure that lies beneath. Organic, textural, and intimate, painting connects me with the worlds of both matter and spirit, and serves as a channel through which I find meaning and balance in life.”
