The Earth speaks to me and it’s been like this for as long as I can remember.
I’ve been a professional photographer for over thirty years, spending the past 15 years in various education positions.
The evolution of my art practice began in my early twenties when I immersed myself in the study of photography and it’s history. My early landscape and nature photographs echoing the work of modernists Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Alfred Stieglitz and Paul Strand who were all in their own way responsible for establishing photography as an art form. As a commercial photographer, I was best known for my lighting and still-life images, creating advertising photographs for a variety of clients.
Over time I began to use my photography in a reportage style that better expressed my concerns for the lives and history of First Nations People, our environment and the never-ending socio-political storms that swirl around us.
I continue to explore these subjects in Icons and Cages, along with the publishing of Cooper Lake: my muse.
