Kate began painting in oils as a child, but eventually art took a back seat to her career as an international lawyer. However, shortly after 9/11 she resigned and enrolled at the Art Students League of NY. There she spent the next 10 years in master classes with renowned abstract expressionist painter, Knox Martin.
Her work, which is non-objective, has appeared in many galleries and museums, and is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad. Although she began—and continues—as a painter, her interest in recycled materials has also led to works in mixed media and assemblages in recent years. Likewise, her one-of-a-kind art jewelry came from recycling dried paint on her palette.
Living in different countries and years of international travel have had a profound impact on her aesthetic, but today she is happy to stay put in the Hudson Valley. “I love everything about this area: the sheep and goats, the pick-your-own farms, a strong sense of history, the scenery. It’s a magical place for any artist.” Past and present memberships in local art associations include RHCAN, Arts Society of Kingston, Woodstock Artists Association, Columbia County Council for the Arts and Tivoli Artists Gallery.
