Rose Gennaro is a Hudson Valley based artist who has a passion for painting the beautiful scenery of the Hudson Valley, Catskills, the Adirondacks and other areas that inspire her. She has a BS in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz and an MS in Fine Art from the College of New Rochelle. She has taught art privately and in public schools and is currently pursuing her own work. In addition, she has studied under local and accomplished artists Seth Nadel and Kevin Cook. Under the instruction of Kevin Cook, she learned the palette and techniques of the Hudson River School artists of the mid-19th century. This has evolved into a combination of that technique with her more impressionistic style.
Most of her subjects are taken from hikes/walks and drives in the Catskills, the Shawangunk Mountains, the Hudson River region and from travels beyond. Her love of hiking began as a quest to see the places in the area where the Hudson River School artists lived and painted, such as Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. In addition, she is inspired by scenic landscapes and historical sites, painting mainly from photographs that she takes herself. Interpreting light and color are extremely important to her, and she tries to capture the essence of the subject in her paintings. It is her hope that the viewer will be able to share in her experiences of being there through her expressions on canvas.
In 2020 she painted two inspired paintings depicting the Coronavirus to elicit hope – the first using The Walkway Over the Hudson as a setting and the other New York City – an article was published in the Southern Dutchess News about her paintings. It is her hope to show hope and light and the beauty of our world through her paintings. https://issuu.com/richardlw47/docs/05-20-20sdn
