Tarryl Gabel, an award-winning Hudson Valley Artist, was born and raised on a cattle ranch on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservatrion, N.D. She was inspired and encouraged by her grandfather, a self-taught western artist.
Living in the Hudson Valley now for over 30 years, her work is more focused on the landmarks and beautiful landscapes of this region and throughout New England. Tarryl prefers to work plein air, (on location in the “open air”) whenever possible. She also paints wildlife and western paintings as well as still life paintings when she cannot be outdoors.
Tarryl had the honor to be chosen to paint an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. At that time, “Our Country’s National Parks” was the theme. She was invited to and attended a special reception at the White House. The ornament will remain a part of their permanent collection.
Tarryl was voted “best of the Hudson Valley-Best Artist” by the readers of the Hudson Valley Magazine for five years. Her works are displayed in many private and corporate collections around the country and abroad.
“I consider a painting successful when it evokes or captures a certain mood or feeling that the viewing audience gets caught up or “lost” in, and I strive to make this emotional connection with the viewer through my art. I am most passionate about capturing that fleeting moment in time and the way the light moves across the changing landscape”.
