If you are looking for colorful large or smaller paintings that may be landscape or abstract, are highly textured, layered and playful, then come to my studio!  I like to begin by asking “What if….” as I experiment with materials, color and shape juxtapositions, and perhaps some collage, which might include paper or fabric. I keep working and rely on intuition to decide when a painting is finished.

These days I often work on commission, as I have a variety of styles from which you can choose to customize color combos and sizes to fit a specific space. Do you have ideas of your own in mind? Vera Kaplan is a Hudson Valley artist who is inspired by European Fauve art of the early 20th century, as well as the art, music, and textile patterns of India, Greece, Italy, and Africa. She adjusts the stylistic elements of her work to fit whichever materials are interesting to experiment with at the current moment.

Some textures are achieved by imbedding and painting on cheesecloth, masking tape, various fabrics, or modeling paste.Any or all of these are glued to canvas and then layered with paint and/or collaged papers. The thought process is a form of waking dream with the canvas as Dreamcatcher.
