My practice as a photographer, is quite simple. I seek to photograph the subjects and the circumstances that delight me, or take my breath away, or in fact correspond to a profound sense of both solitude and connection with my environment. As my original practice of 30 years is an analog practice, using film and now and antiquated manual cameras, this is still the medium that I turn to for personal artwork. Though one could argue that all forms in fact, “capture” the subject, the materials and also the process of photographing on film is where I find connection not only to my subject matter, but to my process.

There exists a clearly decisive moment that must be carefully discerned, however quickly. One does not fire off 500 photographic exposures when making a portrait on film, whether the portrait is of an unpredictable sentient being, human or otherwise, or a physical environment. This restraint highly attunes my eye and my intuition and rewards me with both a profound and confident experience , as well as residual images that I trust share and communicate my experience with the viewer.
